Working with pupils of all ages on their unique musical journey

I am an experienced musician and teach from my home in Wilmslow, Cheshire. I have a real passion for teaching the recorder, piano and theory of music, and also for helping students develop aural skills and all round musicianship.

I focus in my teaching on building excellent technique whilst developing expression and musical creativity. I take a holistic approach to teaching, focussing on the importance of posture and being relaxed whilst playing.

I ensure students feel at ease and happy in their lessons enabling them to become skilled and confident performers.

"As an enthusiastic and engaging teacher, I am passionate about the importance of learning a musical instrument, and developing all round musicianship, to enhance enjoyment and appreciation of life. I provide a supportive and enjoyable learning environment, enabling each student to achieve their full potential and to develop a love for their instrument and for music."

My Music Lessons

Recorder

I have a particular expertise in recorder and began a life-long fascination with the instrument when I started my own studies with my first recorder teacher aged five. The recorder is a versatile, accessible and rewarding instrument for both beginners and advanced musicians, with a repertoire spanning centuries. This is an instrument which it is never too old or too young to begin. I teach from absolute beginner to advanced studies

Piano

I teach piano as first or second study from beginner to Grade five. I use age appropriate methods to develop technical skills, improve mastery of the instrument and explore the vast range of pieces available to the budding or developing pianist.

Theory of Music

I integrate enjoyable methods of learning theory of music as part of my lessons from the beginning, providing a gateway into developing a much fuller understanding of the building blocks of music.

Grade 5 theory is required to access the higher performance and practical ABRSM grades and I offer tailored tuition to work towards this exam - the earlier we start, the better!

Aural Skills and Musicianship

Developing listening skills, and training the brain to understand and process aspects of music through what can be heard alone, is a key but often neglected pillar of developing as an all round musician.

I can help you prepare to give confident and prompt responses in the aural test element of practical exams

“Rachel’s enthusiasm for music really shines through. She is dedicated, kind and patient. Her music room is a wonderfully relaxed environment in which to learn. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a music teacher either for themselves or their children.”
